This
chicken curry recipe I got from Mother in law and is a good side dish for
Palappam, Vellaappam or even with some boiled rice and moru curry. Instead of chicken
you can make this curry with beef or mutton too…
Ingredients:
1-Tender chicken cut into pieces – 1kg
2-Chilly powder – 2tbsp
3-Black pepper powder – 1tsp
4- Cinnamon sticks / Karuva patta- 1”x 1 piece
5- Cloves / Grambu – 4
6- Fennel Seeds / Perum jeerakom – 1 tsp
7- Ginger – 1 small piece
8-Garlic, chopped – 1 tbsp
9-Salt to taste
10- Oil – as needed
11- Onion – 250 gm, finely chopped
12- Tomato – 150gm
13- Grated coconut – 1 cup (grind to a fine paste)
Method:
- Clean the chicken. Grind the masalas 2 to 8 and mix it with the chicken, add salt and cook on a slow fire. In a frying pan, add oil and heat and fry the onions till light brown and remove.
- Then remove the chicken pieces from the gravy and fry the pieces, few at a time till light brown and remove.
- In the remaining oil half fry the tomato pieces, the add coconut paste and fry till light brown, then add the gravy and fried onions and fried chicken pieces and mix well and remove from fire when the gravy thickens and the meat is cooked with the gravy.
